“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted, and behold! Service was joy!” —Rabindranath Tagore
Nehemiah Service Retreats provide an opportunity for members of the Unity community to come together for a week of volunteer work at Unity Village, the world headquarters of the Unity movement.
Like Nehemiah and his community of volunteers, our Nehemiah volunteers come together in sacred service to rebuild and restore the grounds and buildings of Unity Village. Guests arrive on a Sunday afternoon and depart after a closing ceremony on Friday. The main part of each day consists of restoration and construction work. Morning and evening programs provide time for inner restoration through spiritual renewal and fellowship. View typical schedule.
Each Nehemiah Service Retreat focuses on a different work project. Volunteers should be able to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and work on their feet for three hours or more at a time in hot or cool weather. Work can include but is not limited to:

In recognition of the service each volunteer provides during the Nehemiah Service Retreats, Unity provides each guest with complimentary room and board for the week. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to Unity Village.
Because of the limited space and physical nature of the work, volunteers must submit an application prior to registering for a Nehemiah Service Retreat. To obtain an application, contact our Customer Care Department by email at unitycustomerservice@unityonline.org or by phone 1-866-348-6489 (Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. CT). Please allow one business day for response.
See the full Retreat Calendar for other opportunities for spiritual renewal and growth at Unity Village.
