Nehemiah at Unity Village

Rebuild. Renew. Rejoice.

Nehemiah Retreats at Unity Village

2012 Nehemiah Dates:
March 25–30
May 6–11
July 29–August 3
October 21–26

Nehemiah weeks provide an opportunity for members of the Unity community to come together for volunteer work at Unity Village. The name, taken from the Book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament, reflect Nehemiah’s work leading the citizens of Jerusalem in the rebuilding of the city’s walls in the fifth century B.C.E. This work, done as a community, also led to restoring the Jewish people’s faith in God.

Like Nehemiah and his community of volunteer workers, our guests come together to work on rebuilding and restoring the sacred grounds and buildings of Unity Village. At the same time, the week provides opportunities for personal spiritual renewal and growth.

Each Nehemiah will have different work projects to participate in. The work to be done during each session is determined several weeks prior, depending on the time of year and what needs to be done. Work can include but is not limited to:

  • Painting (both interior and exterior)
  • Repairing stucco surfaces of buildings
  • Rebuilding stone walls
  • Landscaping
  • Pool and fountain maintenance

There are also limited opportunities available for inside maintenance and administrative work.

Each volunteer should expect to do physical labor during the designated work times each day. Some of these projects require the ability to life objects weighing up to 35 pounds and working on your feet outdoors for up to three hours a day during hot or cool weather.

Guests will arrive on a Sunday afternoon and depart after a closing ceremony on Friday. The main part of each day will consist of restoration and construction work. Morning and evening programs will provide time for spiritual renewal and fellowship. A celebration banquet is held Thursday evening.

In recognition of the unique and special gift of each guest during Nehemiah, Unity will provide each guest with complimentary room and board for the week.

Registration is limited. Please call 1-866-348-6489 well in advance to secure your spot.
